Welcome to historic Byrnes Downs, one of the oldest suburbs of Charleston just west of the Ashley River.
Byrnes Downs was established in 1945 and the Byrnes Downs Neighborhood Association was formed in 1990. Since then, the Association, with the help of many neighbors, has been instrumental in coordinating with the City of Charleston to have decorative street signs installed throughout the neighborhood, stop signs installed at critical intersections, speed humps installed on high volume streets, the construction of the multi-million dollar stormwater drainage system installed in 2007 that manages the stormwater in our neighborhood. (Byrnes Downs flooded frequently before 2007). The BDNA has won awards for landscaping, raised funds to have dozens of trees planted along the Greenway, and both repaired and installed new Byrnes Downs columns at our entry points. We have socials, informational meetings and residents have worked with businesses, City staff, and elected officials to master plan the Greenway, create signage, and provide input when the St. Andrew’s Shopping Center and The Victory were redesigned.
Join us as we continue to make Byrnes Downs the best it can be!
